ActionAid is delighted to be continuing its partnership with People Tree, the Fair Trade and ecological fashion company, under the banner Fashion at a Fair Price. We aim to raise awareness and campaign for a fashion industry and international trading system which treats poor people and marginalised communities fairly.
People Tree are a fantastic partner for ActionAid – their clothes are made by local producer partners in countries that include Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Peru and Kenya, bringing the benefits of Fair Trade to thousands of marginalised producers. Not only do we work in some of the same countries but we also share many of the same goals and values.
Both organisations help poor and marginalized communities escape from poverty and grasp the opportunity to live and work with dignity. Through this partnership we aim to campaign for a fairer international trading system, showing how creating and producing fashion needn't lead to exploitation of producers at the bottom of the supply chain, but could benefit whole communities.
Over the coming year there will be many ways to get involved with Fashion at a Fair Price. Here are the first two of them.
Keep it Fair t-shirt
We are delighted to launch our new Keep it Fair t-shirt pictured here. Designed by both organisations, and made of 100% organic Fairtrade cotton, it is produced by one of People Tree’s Fair Trade partners in India. By buying this t-shirt you can be assured that a fair price is paid to the communities involved in all stages of its production. It is available for men and women for £20, and we receive a donation of £2.50 for every one sold! Click here to buy yours now www.peopletree.co.uk/actionaid
Fair Trade shopping bag
You could also buy a Fair Trade shopping bag that carries ActionAid’s latest campaign message. ActionAid are currently asking ‘Who Pays the real cost of supermarket price wars?’, examining just who pays the price for cheap clothing lines and low prices in the UK's supermarkets. We found women working in Bangladeshi garment factories that supply big name UK supermarkets being paid just five pence per hour. ActionAid is calling for urgent government action.
People Tree has shown its support for the campaign by producing our exclusive 100% organic, Fair Trade shopping bag to help promote the 'Who Pays?' message. The bag is available now and costs just £5, for more information and to buy your bag, click here now.
