ActionAid has been working in partnership with The Co-operative Bank for over 5 years, offering ActionAid credit cards and raising over £150,000 to date, as well as sponsoring an ActionAid supplement in the Independent newspaper.

With the shared vales of respect, transparency, and participation, the partnership between The Co-operative Bank and ActionAid complements both organisations’ visions. The Co-operative Bank is the only UK high street bank to have a customer-led ethical policy, which outlines how it will and will not invest its customer’s money. The issues evaluated include: human rights, the arms trade, corporate responsibility, global trade and ecological impact.

ActionAid also has a clear set of guidelines outlining which companies the charity can accept support from, ensuring the organisation is free to monitor and speak out against the activities of certain governments and influential companies.

The Co-operative Bank has further supported us by donating £20,000 in 2006 to support our Trade Justice Campaign through their Customers Who Care scheme. They have also sponsored a supplement in the Independent newspaper on World Poverty Day, 17th October 2007, examining ActionAid’s work in ending poverty and injustice worldwide.
