ActionAid reports on Mumbai’s bomb attacks and looks back on the past six months.

14 July 2006

ActionAid colleagues paid homage on 12 July to Jayaprakash Soans, the Mumbai-based programme manager was one of the 200 people who lost their lives in Tuesday’s bomb attacks.

Known to all as JP, Jayaprakash Soans was about to transfer to Bangalore, when his life was cut short.

It has been a sad year for ActionAid. Three staff members were killed on 30 May in the northern district of Afghanistan, about 500 km from Kabul, when the vehicle they were traveling in was ambushed by an unidentified gunman between 8am and 8.30am local time.

ActionAid colleagues also mourned the loss of Nasreen Huq, ActionAid country director for Bangladesh, who was involved in a fatal car accident, on Monday 24 April.

Sadly, two ActionAid staff also died in a plane crash on Saturday 22 October 2005 near Lagos, Nigeria. They are: John Moru, Chinwuba Egbe and Justice Egware. They were among the 117 passengers and crew aboard a Bellview Airlines flight bound for Abuja.
