Arti’s family was so poor that, from the age of six, she had no choice but to work as a 'manual scavenger' – cleaning the pit latrines of local houses in Rajasthan with her bare hands.
When we heard about Arti, she was already suffering from skin and lung problems as a result of the work she had to do. Fortunately, we were able to give her the chance to leave her village and go to a school built specially for children like her.

"I get food every day here. We have a garden and lots of clean open space to play in. I like the teachers. My uncle says I can become a doctor but I must study very hard. This is my happiest time ever."
