How Ambassador money makes a difference

In 2006, the Network raised over £1.2 million to support our priority areas of work. These areas include:

  • Communities experiencing the worst and most extreme cases of poverty, such as in Burundi and the shanty towns of Brazil
  • Particularly unstable countries, many of which have experienced conflict, such as Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
  • Countries where our popular Child Sponsorship and Next Step programmes are not viable and where other funding is difficult, such as Somaliland

The generous support we receive from our Ambassadors also funds our Rapid Response work, which means we can react quickly to emergencies, even when those emergencies don't hit the headlines in the West. In addition to this provision of immediate relief, Ambassadors help fund the longer term work to rebuild lives and ensure communities are better prepared for future disasters.

Ambassadors help us to work on many levels to affect change and tackle the root causes of poverty. For example, not only providing a seed bank to help a poor community improve their food security, but also campaigning to demand equal and fair trade rules from governments.

Some Ambassadors giving significantly more do chose to give to specific priority projects.
