Money raised through the Ambassador Network supports work which would otherwise be very difficult to fund, helping people who may not otherwise be reached.
In 2006, the Network raised over £1.2 million to support our priority areas of work. These areas include:
The generous support we receive from our Ambassadors also funds our Rapid Response work, which means we can react quickly to emergencies, even when those emergencies don't hit the headlines in the West. In addition to this provision of immediate relief, Ambassadors help fund the longer term work to rebuild lives and ensure communities are better prepared for future disasters.
Ambassadors help us to work on many levels to affect change and tackle the root causes of poverty. For example, not only providing a seed bank to help a poor community improve their food security, but also campaigning to demand equal and fair trade rules from governments.
£13,400 could care for women and children living with HIV and AIDS across one state in India.
£9,000 could run an after school girl's club set up to help fight gender-based violence in Rwanda.
£25,000 could pay for a drop-in centre for children living through conflict in Afghanistan.
Some Ambassadors giving significantly more do chose to give to specific priority projects.
