Emergencies can happen at any moment and in any place but most of them do actually develop over a period of time and often follow cycles. ActionAid’s emergency alert system tracks the signs that precede an emergency such as a food crisis or a flood from the very early stages. We use that information to prepare our responses so that when the emergency strikes we can assist the people most affected quickly and effectively.
The alert system is central to our way of working in emergencies. With the Rapid Response Fund, from which money can be applied for and disbursed immediately after an emergency, and a pool of experienced ActionAid staff ready to support our teams on the ground, we are maximising our capacity and experience from past emergencies to improve our effectiveness for future responses.
