innocent foundation

innocent drinks donate 10% of their profits to its foundation each year, demonstrating a commitment to investing in the future of the countries it sources its ingredients from.

The northeast of Brazil is the country’s poorest region – accounting for nearly half of all Brazilians living in poverty. In these drought-prone states, small-scale subsistence farmers struggle to grow beans, cassava and corn in poor, dry soil to support their families.

The innocent and ActionAid project will work at community, regional and national levels to promote the use of seed banks and strengthen farmers' capacity. Activities include:

  • Building up 130 seed banks to prevent and tackle hunger
  • Strengthening farmers' ability to produce seeds for planting
  • Promoting the Ceara State Seed Exchange Network amongst farmers
  • Sharing the seed bank model with the Brazilian government and encouraging them to adopt it as policy

We expect that: 2,968 farmers will directly benefit from this project. In total, about 14,800 people will benefit through improved farming practices.

These people will include some of the poorest families in northeast Brazil, and include the most vulnerable groups including women, children and the elderly.
