ActionAid premieres film series by women from developing world

To mark International Women’s Day, ActionAid has partnered with Birds Eye View for the second year to bring an innovative series of films made by women from the developing world to audiences in the UK.

This strand of the film festival will showcase the very best in new features, documentaries and short films. They bring a fresh angle to the festival presenting seven days of inspiration and celebration.

Subjects covered are as diverse as the relationships between master and servant in India, the perennial issue of HIV and Aids in India and the Mozambique civil war.

Political power and human rights in Pakistan is explored. We follow a journey through the last 30 years of Afghanistan and an Oscar-winning documentary traces the plight of Chinese orphans.

Throughout March, as well as highlighting the struggles that women face, ActionAid will also be celebrating the contribution that women make to creating a fairer and more just world.

Freya Paleit, ActionAid said: "ActionAid is delighted to present these innovative, powerful and thought provoking films made by women from the developing world for the second ActionAid series at the Birds Eye View Film Festival to mark International Women’s Day.

"ActionAid supports projects around the world to empower women and girls to recognise and claim their rights. Women are more likely to live in poverty than men. Women have less money, less protection from violence, less education and less power, simply because they are women. But, women also drive change.

"Supporting women to realise their rights is essential in the fight against poverty."
