Whilst aid from charities plays a vital role in tackling poverty, it's not enough on its own. Government aid from rich countries could lift half a billion people out of poverty – but only if they give what they've promised and it reaches the poorest.
Better aid
We believe all aid should be used to tackle poverty as effectively as possible. But our research shows this is not always the case. We work to make sure aid is focussed on the poorest and does not come with damaging strings attached.
Technical assistance
Everyone wants to see aid money going to those most in need. But 25% of government aid is often spent on expensive consultants, research and training. This 'technical assistance' usually promotes rich countries' interests rather than meeting the needs of the poor.
World Bank and IMF
These powerful global institutions have a huge influence on poor countries. We want to see them use that power to tackle injustice. That is why we are fighting for these giants to hear the voices of the world’s poorest.
