After a two year official inquiry, the Competition Commission has found the big UK supermarkets guilty of exploiting overseas workers.
Your 42,000 loyalty pledges supporting the Who Pays? campaign have been vital in persuading the Competition Commission to recommend a watchdog to make UK supermarkets play fair overseas.
Poor workers in developing countries are working in totally unacceptable conditions to produce the goods we buy. Pressure from supermarkets mean that workers pay the price, with longer hours and a lack of basic rights in the workplace. The low wages they receive means the food crisis is hitting them hard.
"There are times when I can’t manage to buy meat or enough vegetables. When it’s winter here, we are not working and we have no money." Elizabeth Jonkers*
Millions of women workers could get a fairer deal thanks to your pressure. Now we need urgent government action to make sure the watchdog gets up and running - and fast.
As Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George says, "The Government must now honour the Competition Commission’s firm recommendation"
You can help by asking your MP to take action and make sure this happens.
Take action and make supermarkets play fair overseas.
