Claire has been a campaigner with ActionAid for 5 years. Since finishing University and starting work, she has also started to support us with a regular gift.

I’m very aware of my place in the world and that how we live our lives affects people in other countries who may not have the means to change their own situations. It’s unacceptable that people are forced to live in poverty.
I’ve always wanted to do something to help people and I was given that chance when I met ActionAid at Reading Festival.I became involved with ActionAid’s Youth Editorial Board through interviewing people and writing articles for ActionAid_Space. I was also involved in campaigning - telling other people about development issues and how they can do their bit through getting involved with campaigns, signing pledges or writing to their MP. I love campaigning – making people think, even just for 5 minutes, about the millions of people who live in poverty is truly rewarding.
I feel most strongly about the HIV & AIDS campaign that I was involved in. I was asked to be a representative of the ActionAid delegation to the All Parliamentary Group on HIV & AIDS and as I was reading in preparation for the meeting, I was horrified to learn about the true extent of the pandemic in the developing world. The statistics are frightening. The situation is truly deplorable.
How can you help fight poverty without donating? Let us count the ways: Gig, shop, be an activist, rag raid, download music, volunteer at a festival, skydive, run, make beautiful art, join our social networks, party, organise, go see our work overseas, spread the word with free stuff, OR suggest an idea of your own. Phew.
