Cambodia: HIV and AIDS care for women and orphans

Fact: Cambodia has one of Asia’s highest HIV and AIDS rates, and women and children are particularly vulnerable.

Our aim: To provide women and orphans with the care and support they need to live positively with HIV and AIDS.

Thanks to you: So far your support has helped us get 533 children affected by HIV/AIDS back to school and provided 922 women and children with home-based care and medical treatment.

Over 3,000 women and children also attended community education programmes helping them learn more about HIV/AIDS and women's health. These women and children will pass on what they know - in the 34 communities in which we work, the spread of this knowledge will do more than anything else to combat the deadly affects of the disease.

Because of you, children like Vy Rath can look forward to a brighter future.

HIV and AIDS in Cambodia

  • There are around 60,000 AIDS orphans in Cambodia
  • With no-one to care for them, many end up on the streets
  • Almost half of new HIV infections in Cambodia are among women who don’t know their husbands carry the virus
  • Remote communities have no access to HIV and AIDS information
  • Food shortages and poor nutrition speed the progression from HIV to AIDS.
