Vedanta: latest news and action

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the Vedanta campaign to stop a mine being built on the Kondh tribal people’s home.

Your support has helped raise the Kondh’s battle to an international level. Last month, two key investors, The Church of England and Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, withdrew their investments from the company on ethical grounds. This sends a powerful message to Vedanta’s other shareholders about the risks of investing in a company with such a poor human rights and environmental record.

ActionAid has been campaigning to stop this mine being built for six years and will continue to stand alongside on the Kondh both on the ground in Niyamgiri and internationally.

The Indian Government is now publically engaging with the issue and have recently found that Vedanta has indeed violated environmental guidelines, which is a huge step forward.  Let them know that the world is watching by signing this petition to the Indian Prime Minister.
