Coronation Street Stars come together on the famous cobbles to launch PoverTee Day

21 May 2009

Stars of one of Britain’s favourite soaps came together, in front of the famous Rovers Return, to model t-shirts they had designed to launch ActionAid’s first ever PoverTee Day.

Taking place on Friday 26 June, the cast of Coronation Street is urging everyone in the UK to take part in the day, simply by wearing a t-shirt and donating £2 to ActionAid.

It can be any t-shirt - a favourite old tee, a slogan t-shirt to make a statement or one of the official PoverTee Day tees. The important part is the £2 donation that will help ActionAid’s work with some of the poorest people in the world. The cast members such as Sally Whittaker, Vicky Entwistle and Anthony Cotton, designed their own t-shirts specifically to wear on the day. Anthony, who plays beloved barman Sean Tully, decorated his tee with the slogan ‘Yes indeedy, help the needy!’, whilst Vicky, a.k.a. Janice Battersby, wrote ’A problem shared is a problem halved.’

Sally Whittaker, who plays Sally Webster in the soap, said: “We’ll all be wearing our t-shirts to work that day. It is a great chance to do something really fun and easy to help the vital work of ActionAid with those living in poverty around the world.”
