In Vietnam natural disasters like floods affect the lives of thousands of people every year. Poor people are particularly vulnerable in times of disaster. With limited access to information, lack of resources and little government protection they often suffer the most as a result.
In Vietnam we set aside a certain amount of money each year to enable us to respond to these seasonal emergencies. A combination of the drop in Sterling, inflation and fluctuating exchange rates means that we have a shortfall of 30%.
In 2008 a month’s food package for a family of 5 cost £28.50. Now that food parcel costs £37.90.
