Real lives: Bobita's story

25 August 2009

"My name is Bobita. After our home and our crops near the Tista river in Bangladesh were destroyed bu a floodmy family had to leave. Now we live in a bamboo and tin shed near a dam.

"Before we lost our land and our crops my father was a farmer, but he has been ill and now he begs to earn money. I have a job as a maidservant."

What is happening in Bangladesh?

Climate change is causing the glaciers in the Himalayas to melt, swelling the mighty rivers of Bangladesh.

Land used for growing crops get waterlogged  and destroyed, forcing farmers tto move to the slums of the cities.
