Get involved

What can I do?

There are loads of ways to get involved, from taking our online actions to making your voice heard in the local press.

We support our campaigners to meet and lobby their MPs, get the word out online through blogs or social networking sites, and attend rallies, marches and events with other campaigners.

If you’ve got a minute, an hour or longer, there are tonnes of ways to make your voice heard.

Does it actually work?

In a word: yes!

Over the last few years our campaigning has helped to:

  • double the UK aid budget
  • cancel the debts of 20 poor countries, worth over $50 billion. This has meant, for example, that in ten African countries there has been a massive 70 increase on healthcare spending
  • win the promise of HIV treatment for all who need it. This helped to achieve an increase in numbers of HIV-positive people in low and middle income countries receiving treatment from 1 million in 2005 to 4 million by 2009
  • fight for a new watchdog to ensure supermarkets play fair overseas
  • win a pledge of $20 billion to tackle hunger from G8 leaders
  • get the UK government to champion the cause of tax justice for developing countries
  • stop UK mining company Vedanta from destroying the sacred mountain homeland of India’s Dongria Kondh tribe
