On Thursday night (25th February) a star studded benefit at the Roundhouse raised £90,100 for ActionAid and Medicins Sans Frontieres and their ongoing work in earthquake-struck Haiti.

Dozens of top musicians, comedians and celebrities joined fans at the famous North London venue for the fundraising gig compered by Marcus Brigstocke. The concert boasted a selection of live acts including Seasick Steve, NME God-like genius award winner Paul Weller, NME Best New Band Award-Winners Bombay Bicycle Club and Mr Hudson, who praised the organisers for putting it together so quickly. KT Tunstall also debuted new material, dueting with Seasick Steve for a rousing finale.
Harry Shearer (The Simpsons, This is Spinal Tap) spoke movingly about the fact that the tragedy was more than a natural disaster - it was a consequence of poverty, saying "if this earthquake had hit Los Angeles, 8 or 9 people would have died" before getting one of the biggest rounds of applause of the night when he said "Don't let your concern for these people end tonight."
Jean-Claude Fignole, ActionAid Country Director in Haiti said: "Music and song are the cultural backbone of our nation. This concert was a wonderful way to raise vital funds that will help thousands of Haitians in the aftermath of such devastation. I'd like to thank everyone who organised and performed at the event and especially to all those who bought tickets. Your generosity will make a real difference – enabling ActionAid to provide food and shelter to those who need it most and to help get children back to school and people back to work so they can start to rebuild their lives."
