26 April 2010
On Sunday 25 April, twenty-seven of ActionAid's intrepid runners braved rain, crowds and ridiculous costumes to finish the London Marathon and raise money to help end poverty.
Here are some of our action heroes with their medals and a few words about how they kept going:
David Brooks, 37, with his daughter. Her t-shirt reads "Go Daddy".
"I have been involved with ActionAid for maybe 10 years and had been planning to [run the marathon] for a number of years. There are lots of fantastic charities here but I have an affinity for ActionAid.
"The run was hideously painful: I nearly stopped at mile 19, mile 20, mile 21, mile 22 and mile 24! It was fantastic to finish."
Time: 3:33
Ed Boden, the first of the ActionAid runners to cross the finish line.
"It's my first-ever marathon and the first chance I have to raise money directly for ActionAid, although I have been a sponsor of a child in India for some time.
"I had to tough it out in the last few miles. It was good to have my name on my vest as everybody was saying 'Come on Ed, come on Ed'.
"I am pleased I did it for ActionAid."
Time: 2:59
Tierney Hanson, 24.
"I chose to do it for ActionAid after I saw a series of adverts on the TV about children in India and I wanted to raise money for Haiti.
"In the last three miles I could have given up but I kept going."
Alice Crossley, 30.
Time: 5:18
