Actor Ralf Little has just returned from visiting an ActionAid project in Rio de Janeiro's notorious City of God. The Royle Family star saw at first hand the scale of the problem in this sprawling urban area, where 65,000 residents have just one secondary school and one health centre between them. He said: "No-one should have to live like this."
The project he visited is called the Centre for Education and Cultural Actions (CEACC), an ActionAid-supported project that gives children a safe place to play, and a chance of learning new skills like computing, football and capoeira.
It is no surprise that Ralf was interested in taking part in the activities offered at CEACC in the City of God, as he used to play semi-professional football.
Knowing that this year’s World Cup legacy is to provide education for all, and that World Cup 2014 will be taking place in Rio de Janeiro, ActionAid has found a great opportunity to make a connection between this event and education through sport, which can raise public awareness in tackling poverty.
Ralf added, "It just takes one kick to score a goal and one little act of kindness to change these kids' lives".
Sponsor a child in Brazil
"I like to write to my sponsor and tell her about the things I enjoy doing, like flying kites, playing marbles and playing with a ball. I would like to meet her one day."
By sponsoring a child like Wesley (above), you can provide help that can change a whole community.
