Child sponsorship in schools

Across the world there are many children like seven year old Sarah, all hoping for a life free from poverty.

Sarah's home is a tiny, two room house made of mud. Since her father's death she works hard to help her mother grow crops on their small piece of land. On a good day, Sarah and her brothers and sisters will have two meals, on a bad day they will go to bed hungry.

Unlike 72 million other children of primary school age, Sarah does go to school. Her dream is to go to secondary school, but her mother can’t afford the fees, books and uniform.

ActionAid child sponsorship could ensure Sarah's continued education, and help her family access safe clean water, nourishing food and the opportunities they need to change their future, for good.

As a sponsoring school, you'll have the chance to help a whole community take control of their lives and end their poverty. Become an ActionAid sponsor today and find out how you can bring positive change to a child like Sarah.

"We've been sponsoring children with ActionAid for 10 years. We feel it is very important as a school community to share our good fortune with others. We hope that through our sponsorship other children can share in some of the advantages that we have. Both parents and children are involved in fundraising for child sponsorship. Cake sales are very popular!"

Frequently asked questions

How does schools sponsorship work?

As a sponsoring school, you'll have a unique connection with a child. But to ensure that your school's donation is spent as effectively as possible, child sponsorship funds work in the community where your sponsored child lives. So you and your pupils help not only the child your school sponsors but also those who are closest to them - their friends and family.
