Uganda: education for children in Giriki

We now have the funds we need to start building the school. Your help has been essential to turning a tragic history into a bright future. And it's not too late to get involved in the story of Giriki.

David with his plans for the schoolThe people of Giriki have suffered 30 years of terror. Now that their homeland is safe, families are returning every day. But their homes, schools, wells and farms have been destroyed.

Desperate for an education for their children, the parents of Giriki built the structure currently used as a school two years ago. Alfred, the local teacher, manages to teach two classes together in this unwalled shack. Outside, there are another two classes and he splits his time between them.

Children like David need a proper school. All the plans are in place. We're ready to start building in January. But we urgently need your help.

“It is the responsibility of everyone in our community to make sure our children get the education they need – or what will become of us? All my life we have been limited by what is around us. I want all our children to be able to decide what they want for themselves.”
