The latest ActionAid reports show that the people whose lives have been devastated by the floods in Pakistan will need long term support to deal with the emotional impact of losing relatives and friends, their homes and livelihoods.
While flood waters continue to spread south into the provinces of Sindh and Balochistan, in other areas the flood waters have started to recede, revealing the full devastation. Across the country roads and bridges have been washed away, along with millions of acres of cropland.
What is ActionAid doing?
ActionAid has been working in Pakistan since 1992, and we have committed to at least a two year response to this current emergency, helping people get back on their feet and reducing their vulnerability to future disasters.
In areas where we had existing programmes prior to the floods, our emergency response will be integrated into our long term development work, supporting flood affected populations for many years to come.
ActionAid will create women and child-friendly spaces, where people can express their feelings through recreational activities and begin the healing process.
At least 17.6 million people are reported to have been affected by the Pakistan floods with 1,600 killed and 2,366 injured.
What you can do
ActionAid supporters have already been amazingly generous, but the scale of the devastation means there is much, much more to do. Please help by giving whatever you can to give long-term support to the people of Pakistan.
