Feb 2011Child sponsorship changes lives. You can help the people of Chachro, Pakistan build a better future.
Location
Chachro itself is an area of desert – dotted with plants, shrubs and trees that can survive the scorching heat. The average temperature is a blistering 49 C.
Life in Ramoetsana
With mile upon mile of barren sand dunes scattered with thorny vegetation, Chachro has always been a hard place to live.
Communities depend on underground water supplies – but now much of this water is unfit for human consumption and is contaminated with arsenic and other harmful substances. Prolonged droughts in the last ten years have made life harder.
Access to education
Most of the schools in Chachro are in need of repair and lack basic resources. Because of the extreme poverty of their families many children have to work in the carpet industry – spending long hours on looms in their homes and earning meagre wages.
ActionAid's work in Chachro
Thanks to your support we are tackling these issues and are working with communities to help establish more schools, train more teachers and to reduce the high drop-out rate of pupils.
