Location
Chiendambuya is in Eastern Zimbabwe, 200 miles East of the capital, Harare.

The rocky, undulating hills, with their sparse trees, support agriculture and cattle grazing, but always with the looming threat of drought. 

Life in Chiendambuya
Most people in Chiendambuya are extremely poor. Many families cannot afford the essentials of life – enough food, adequate shelter and basic healthcare. Some younger adults migrate to the towns to look for work, but there is little employment to be had because of Zimbabwe’s continuing economic turmoil. Girls and women are also vulnerable to exploitation and sexual abuse.

HIV and AIDS
The prevalence of HIV and AIDS has had a huge impact in Chiendambuya. Many people have died and many others are living with HIV with no medical care or support. The disease carries a terrible social stigma – and so those who are infected are often pushed to the margins of society.
