ActionAid International

ActionAid is the only major development charity with its head office in Africa. And it's the only charity to have broken the mould of a traditional development charity, where decisions belonged to donors, and the developing was forced to be a passive recipient of aid.

At ActionAid, donors and recipients sit down as equals.

That means ActionAid can prioritise the work that really matters to people in poor countries. It makes us fairer, it makes us more efficient and it makes us better, much better, at attacking the real root causes of poverty.

"The causes of poverty are global, complex and interconnected. A visibly international organisation will be better able to contest them," Ramesh Singh, ActionAid International's first chief executive.
