ActionAid joined together with more than 500 other organisations in the UK, which between them campaigned to MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY in 2005.
With the UK chairing the G8 and the European Union in 2005, MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY called on world leaders to take action to deliver trade justice not free trade, debt cancellation and more and better aid.
Throughout the year, millions of people joined MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY’s campaigning actions. We were been successful in pushing the issue of global justice to the top of the media and political agenda.
Thanks to the actions of campaigners, some progress was made in July’s G8 meeting at Gleneagles but it did not go far enough. MAKEPOVERYTHISTORY continued to press decision makers to take urgent action to make a real difference to the world’s poorest people in 2005.
MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY is the UK arm of a worldwide movement called the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP). An international coalition of more than 150 million people, GCAP are campaigning all around the world for significant action on global poverty.
ActionAid will contine to campaign on the core issues of the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY campaign of trade, aid, debt, HIV and AIDS.
