Yesterday, the PM spoke out against Jimmy Carr’s tax affairs calling them "morally wrong" and fuelling an amazing media frenzy. But what I find even more amazing is that at the same time as the government is speaking out against tax avoidance of celebrities, it is opening a new tax loophole in the Finance Bill this week.
We’ve been campaigning hard over the last few months to stop the new tax loophole, which will make it easier for UK companies to shift profits into tax havens. We estimate this will cost poor countries £4 billion and the government estimates it could cost the UK £1 billion.
I want the government to focus on the bigger picture, and put its words into action by stopping the new tax loophole when MPs get their last chance to vote on it next month. If you think so too, join our campaign today.
