We popped down to Westminster yesterday morning to show Business Minister Jo Swinson just how much support there is for a supermarket watchdog with teeth.
With our very own 'watchdog' and a shopping trolley of demands in tow, we spoke to Jo about the thousands of you who are calling for the watchdog to have the power to fine from day one. As the minister with the power to make sure the watchdog has teeth, she was very receptive and was keen to hear about the campaign. She even took away a little cuddly watchdog which she said would spruce up her office.
We were there with our friends from Traidcraft, War on Want, Speak and Friends of the Earth to show just how wide the support for fining from day one is.
It was great to be able to show Jo just how strongly people feel about watchdog. It's not something that's splashed across the front page of every newspaper, but I think she understands that so many people really want to ensure that farmers in developing countries have the protection they need from supermarket exploitation.
We need to make sure all MPs understand this too. Contact your MP to tell them that you want to see a supermarket watchdog with teeth.
