I had the pleasure of spending yesterday evening with a great bunch of ActionAid supporters at our campaign workshop called ‘Global meltdown, developing countries and the G20’.
After spending the last few weeks frantically making preparations for the Put People First rally, it was really rewarding to speak to some ‘real life’ people and find out just how fired up they are about the financial crisis and G20 summit.
ActionAid’s policy coordinator Clare Melamed outlined how the crisis was starting to bit in developing countries – with some African states facing a drop of 50% to their income by the end of the year.
Emma Harbour, our G20 campaigner, then stole the show with her explanation of the coalition we’re working with and how people can get involved. Eschewing the usual powerpoint Emma delivered her presentation in style - using a set of campaign placards!
Difficult as it was to top this performance, it was fantastic to hear lots of amazing ideas from supporters on how they wanted to get out there and help bring people to the rally on Saturday 28 March! I can’t wait – fingers crossed the weather stays good!
