ActionAid campaigners gave ministers at the Department for International Development a Valentine’s Day to remember.
After the successful launch of the Invisible women campaign on World AIDS Day, Douglas Alexander responded positively to the thousands of personalised cards sent to him by ActionAid campaigners.
But for millions of HIV positive women around the world, his department’s new HIV and AIDS strategy will need to deliver firm plans, not just warm words.
Valentine’s Day was a great opportunity to get some specific commitments from him and his ministerial team.
Alongside e-cards sent by target poverty campaigners, we paid a visit to his office and with the help of a singing telegram, delivered a very special card.
Hundreds of DFID staff also got their own Valentine's cards and we managed to get the whole office talking about our campaign.
What happens next?
Valentine’s Day or not, it’s always good to know that someone cares, so why not keep the pressure on and send Douglas Alexander a special e-card now?
The new HIV strategy will be published in the spring – so there’s still time to make a difference.
