Today at Prime Minister’s Question Time, David Cameron made a long-awaited announcement that he would be holding an event to discuss global hunger when world leaders are visiting London for the Olympics.
Meredith Alexander, Head of Policy for ActionAid said:
"David Cameron’s hunger summit will shine a global spotlight on an issue that has been ignored by far too many for far too long.
"The fight against hunger will not be won in a single day, but every day that world leaders spend on this issue could make a huge difference to the 1 billion people that will go to bed with empty bellies tonight.
"Over the last several years the UK has been playing a leading role in funding initiatives to tackle the problem. At this summit, other world leaders must follow the UK’s example and bring new money to the table."
