The Guardian has announced the 2013 launch of Make Poverty History 2. And yes ActionAid can confirm that all the major aid agencies are discussing a potential campaign to coincide with the UK chairing the G8 group of nations next year.
But it’s not yet certain it will go ahead even though there’s a lot of good will. As an old 2005 hand, I for one am hoping it will see the light of day. As the Guardian rightly points out we need to energise the aid sector. We also need to draw attention to the world’s growing food and hunger crisis and the broken systems that mean some of the poorest people on earth are finding it increasingly difficult to feed their families adequately.
A joint campaign that brings together issues around development and the environment and involves organisations who work on both matters could well be a key means of doing that.
