Off the streets
When he was eight, Claude’s parents were killed in Burundi’s civil war, leaving him to fend for himself on the streets. An ActionAid–supported project persuaded him off the streets and into the safety of a village specially created to help orphaned children thrive, providing them with meals, shelter and education.
Growing success
Kikmiya Ahmed, a widowed mother of four, lives in Serkema, a drought–prone and remote village in Ethiopia. An ActionAid–funded irrigation project is now helping families and farmers in the village by providing fresh water for drinking and watering crops, even when the rains fail.
