- Gertruida earns just 39p an hour picking fruit in South Africa that ends up on Tesco’s shelves. For the past two years Gertruida has come to London to attend the Tesco AGM and tell supermarket bosses about the reality of her life and, in response, Tesco have now committed to changing the way they audit their farms in South Africa.

- Birhane Kelkay
- Birhane found out she was HIV positive in 1992 and was told she’d be dead within two years. Refusing to give up, she became the first person in her city of Awassa to speak out publicly about living with HIV. In 2003 Brihane and four other women set up a network campaigning for the rights of HIV positive women in Ethiopia.

- Shamima Nasreen
- Shamima moved to Dhaka at a young age with two small children and, like many Bangladeshi women, began working in a garments factory. Appalled at the poverty, poor working conditions and harassment faced by women workers, Shamima began protesting for change. She is now President of the Bangladeshi garment workers trade union SBGSKF.
