The Niyamgiri Mountain has been home to three tribal groups for generations. The mountain provides for all their needs – including food, water and medicines.
After centuries of living in this remote and untouched region of India the lives of hundreds of local tribal people is now under great threat from the mining company Vedanta. The company is looking to mine the mountain for bauxite – the raw form of aluminium – but to do this they are forcing people out of their homes and damaging the forests and streams that have been the lifeblood of these tribal groups for thousands of years.
This short film tells you about their lives before the mining giant moved in and the struggle that has brought them to London in the fight to stop Vedanta destroying their homes and livelihoods.
