Home shouldn’t hurt
Women and girls have the right to be safe, wherever they are. Their homes and neighbourhoods should be places where they feel most comfortable, where they have nothing to fear.
But for many women and girls, this isn’t the reality. In fact, home can be the most dangerous place in the world.
In Uganda, more than half of women and girls aged between 15 and 49 report experiencing physical violence.
And 45% of women who have ever been married said they are afraid of their current or most recent spouse or partner.
ActionAid’s local workers tackle violence in communities and help survivors access the services they need and the justice they deserve. Together, we are ending violence against women and girls.
What ActionAid does
ActionAid is an international charity that works with women and girls living in poverty.
Our dedicated local staff are ending violence against women and girls and helping change lives, for good. We won’t stop until women and girls are out of danger, out of poverty and on track to create the future they want.
We operate in rural and urban communities across Asia, Africa and Latin America.
We’re committed to ending the cycle of violence in communities around the world, and providing the support that each woman or girl needs to recover, get the justice she deserves, and rebuild her life.
