What will I be doing at Latitude?
You’ll be part of our team having fun for a good cause. We’re looking for dedicated volunteers who are hard working, enthusiastic, energetic and flexible.
To join our Latitude team, you must be 18 or over and confident in approaching festival-goers to talk about ActionAid’s work and encourage them to support us. You will also be required to pay a £100 deposit if you have not worked or volunteered with ActionAid before. This will be returned to you within 30 days of you completing all your shifts at Latitude.
You’ll need to commit to working an allocated role and shifts of four to six hours a day. Please note that you will have to cover your own travel costs to get to and from the festival. Breakfast, snacks and water will be provided, but any other meals will be at your own expense. As a non-for-profit organisation we are unable to cover these costs for you.
By encouraging people to support ActionAid, you’ll help us make 2019 our best Latitude yet.
Bringing #MyBodyIsMine to Latitude
Whether you’re wearing a bikini at a festival, a uniform in a classroom or a trouser suit at work, you have the right to be free from harassment or abuse.
One in three women worldwide will experience physical violence or sexual abuse in their lifetime, most likely at the hands of someone they know. Beneath so much of this violence is a common idea: that women and girls’ bodies are the property of men, for them to exploit and control.
This is wrong, and it needs to stop. At Latitude Festival, ActionAid is encouraging women and girls to come together to say: #MyBodyIsMine. Everyone is encouraged to take part in all the activities, to show their support for #MyBodyIsMine and women’s rights.
Join us at our tent next to the BBC Music Stage to ‘ride the wave of change’ on our surf simulator or purchase a limited-edition #MyBodyIsMine t-shirt. Together, we can reclaim our bodies and shine a spotlight on violence against women and girls.
Surf the wave of change
Climb on our free outdoor surf simulator and see whether you’ve got what it takes to ‘ride the wave of change’!
Get creative with temporary tattoos and body paint
Get your own #MyBodyIsMine temporary tattoo or indulge your creative side with our attention-grabbing face and body paints.
It wouldn’t be a festival without lots and lots of glitter (bio-degradable, of course!) – so expect to get sparkly too!
Buy a limited-edition #MyBodyIsMine t-shirt
We collaborated with five leading female artists – Laura Callaghan, Clio Peppiatt, Patternity, Poppy Chancellor and Ruby Taylor – to create a collection of t-shirts in support of our #MyBodyIsMine campaign.
The t-shirts will be available to buy at Latitude, with 100% of the profit going towards our work with women and girls living in poverty.
Design a #MyBodyIsMine tote bag
Get crafty and design your own #MyBodyIsMine tote bag. You can take it home with you as a Latitude memento!
We’ll supply the materials and the bags – all you’ll need to bring is your creativity and unique interpretation of #MyBodyIsMine.
Enter our prize draw to meet Neneh Cherry
Fancy having a chat and snapping a selfie with the one and only Neneh Cherry? The legendary Swedish singer-songwriter has offered a backstage meet and greet for one lucky Latitude-goer and a guest at the Festival.
To enter you must already have a festival ticket. Unfortunately, ActionAid volunteers are unable to apply.
Ending violence against women
When Talat married aged 17, her husband’s family began abusing her. She soon sought help from ActionAid’s One-Stop Crisis Centre in central India. There, Talat was given the opportunity to train as a rickshaw driver.
In the future, she hopes to transport women and girls to and from the centre. At ActionAid, we believe that every woman and girl around the world should be able to say #MyBodyIsMine and live a life free from violence.
My message to other girls… is that they should never lose confidence in themselves.”
