General election hustings: women’s rights and sustainable development

ActionAid UK and Overseas Development Institute (ODI) are hosting a general election hustings event on the topic of ‘Women’s rights and sustainable development’ on Monday 18th November at 1:30 pm — 3pm.

The event is taking place at Overseas Development Institute, Room A, 203 Blackfriars Rd, London SE1 8NJ.

The increasingly critical issues of climate change and international trade in the upcoming election brings new questions for the general public, but we don’t often see women at the heart of the debate or the impact on women and girls addressed.

Candidates from across the political spectrum have been invited to set out their party’s position on the following key issues, before answering questions from the audience.

ActionAid UK’s CEO Girish Menon and the ODI’s Executive Director Sara Pantuliano will give introductory speeches.

Lucy Lamble, Executive Editor of Global Development at The Guardian will be chairing the event.

Party speakers confirmed so far:

Lord Ray Collins, Labour Party

Baroness Shas Sheehan, Liberal Democrats Party

Elizabeth Babade, Brexit Party

Baroness Natalie Bennett, The Green Party
