ActionAid’s Women’s Right’s Campaign Manager Sarah Carson, commenting on DFID’s announcement of new funding to tackle violence against women and girls in developing countries, said:
“ActionAid welcomes this recognition of the role of grassroots organisations at the frontline of the fight against violence. This is an important step forward, as part of the Government’s work to end the global epidemic of violence which threatens the lives of millions of women every day.
“The fact that a third of all women experience some form of violence in their lifetime shows the scale of the challenge. Investing in the work of women’s rights organisations is the best strategy for ending the violence for good.
“We hope that the Government will continue to build on this commitment in the future, increasing the resources available and ensuring that the money gets directly into the hands of women on the frontline.”
