ActionAid’s Head of Policy Anna Thomas, commenting on reports the Trump administration will withdraw the United States from the Paris agreement to combat climate change, said:

"Millions of people around the world are already forced to live with a climate crisis they didn't cause. By taking this backward step, the Trump administration continues to turn its back on the rest of the world, with some of the poorest people set to suffer the consequences.

"Climate change is devastating countries across the world with millions on the brink of starvation in East Africa because of drought and whole communities washed away in Bangladesh. Some of the poorest and most marginalised people in the world will continue to bear the brunt of climate change unless strong action is taken.

“The world needs the U.S. to drastically cut emissions and step forward with the money needed to support countries around the world to adapt to climate impacts. The Trump administration may not want to accept this reality, but the U.S. must do its fair share when it comes to global climate action."
