Mina is a social mobiliser and volunteer for ActionAid in Sindupalchowk, Nepal

Mina is a 24-year-old volunteer, and she is coordinating the rebuild of homes and schools in her village in Nepal with ActionAid. She lives in Sindupalchowk, one of the regions that was worst hit by the earthquakes that struck Nepal six months ago this week. Here, she describes her work and why it's so important that the women of Nepal are at the heart of rebuilding their communities.

Hiranya and her husband have been millers in the village for 37 years.

Rebuilding the water mill in Manigaun, Nepal

Posted in Blogs 4 years 3 months ago

The water mill in the town of Manigaun was destroyed during one of the earthquakes to hit Nepal earlier this year. The building in which the grinding stones worked collapsed and the channels which brought water to turn the stones were broken. Now, three months later I was able to watch as the heavy granite stones turned again for the first time.

Rebuilding homes and lives in Nepal

Posted in Blogs 4 years 4 months ago

It's been almost three months since two massive earthquakes struck Nepal. Our initial focus was on providing urgent food and shelter to communities who had lost everything. Now, we are helping to rebuild homes, schools and livelihoods. So far with our partners we have supported communities to construct 950 temporary shelters, distributed 3,300 storage bins to farmers so they can keep crops dry, and created 14 fully functioning safe spaces for women.

People run out onto a Kathmandu street as an earthquake measuring 7.3 in magnitude hits Nepal

Today’s earthquake in Nepal is terrible news - coming just as a semblance of normality was returning to the country and the aftershocks had died down from the first quake two weeks ago. Please donate to help us get aid to survivors. Wherever possible, people had started to move back home from their temporary shelters. They will be back on the streets again tonight, sheltering under tarpaulin – terrified, and with terrible memories reawakened.
