Female Genital Mutilation

Emma Thompson and her adopted son Tindy, visited Liberia with ActionAid

Long-time ActionAid supporter and women's rights activist Emma Thompson is helping to raise awareness of what is a totally unnecessary practice and is encouraging people to take a stand and help eradicate female genital mutilation.

In Liberia, parents fear their daughters will be stigmatised from the community or unable to marry if they don’t undergo female genital mutilation

Here in Liberia we are marking the International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation. We want to end this brutal practice that stands out as one of the most significant sexual and reproductive health crises of the 21st century.
