Our dedicated Gulf team can provide you with bespoke projects and reporting to suit your philanthropic and faith-inspired giving, enabling you to help reduce poverty and support women and girls in need.

We offer a range of exciting opportunities to our strategic partners: you would be invited to exclusive events with our country programme staff; you will have the opportunity to visit our work in-country; and you will gain insight into global events and emergencies so that you can see first hand what your donation has achieved.

At ActionAid, we accept both Zakat1 where 100% of your donation reaches the beneficiary and Sadaqah gifts.

For instance, we are channelling Zakat donations to drought-affected households in Somaliland this Ramadan to ensure people’s basic needs are met.

ActionAid works in the occupied Palestinian territory providing humanitarian assistance.

Ongoing conflict and poverty have had a devastating effect on the region. ActionAid has been operating in the occupied Palestinian territory since 2014. We have been providing humanitarian aid, psychosocial and economic support to help women and children in Gaza and the West Bank.

Most recently we have worked with partners to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic in the region providing food and sanitation packs.

Education and aid in Bangladesh

We work in Bangladesh to help vulnerable communities in both rural and urban parts of the country.

ActionAid’s Arise Fund is the first ever global fund directly supporting women-led emergency response and preparedness work.

First launched in Australia, its aim is:

to train and empower more women around the globe to become leaders in disaster preparedness in their communities
to ensure women’s rights are protected during emergencies
to build women’s resilience so they can face the challenges and respond better to future disasters and emergencies.

Why does women's leadership matter?

In times of crisis, before outside help arrives, women are often the first to respond. But when humanitarian aid arrives, women’s roles are often undermined, their voices ignored and their agency not recognised.

The consequences of this are far-reaching: as of 2015, just 0.5% of humanitarian funding was spent on addressing gender-based violence. Meanwhile, women and children are 14 times more likely to die in a disaster.

Research shows that women's leadership improves humanitarian response, ensuring it is more inclusive, and helping to build community resilience to future emergencies.

When women are given the resources and opportunity to lead:

more lives are saved
women and girls are better protected from violence
women's position in society is transformed.

Arise Leadership Circle

Where does the money go?

The climate crisis is a major focus of the Arise Fund.

As the changing climate leads to increases in severe storms, flooding, droughts and other hazards, it is the poorest countries that are worst hit, and it is the women and girls in those countries who are disproportionately affected.

As well as bringing urgently needed medical response in the immediate aftermath of a crisis, the Arise Fund helps train local women as community leaders and set up safe spaces for women to meet, receive information, learn more about specific risks they face like gender-based violence, and access referral services.

How your donation makes a difference

Over the next 10 years, our ambition is to raise £5 million to reach two million people around the world through women’s leadership. We can only meet this goal with the help of generous supporters who share our commitment to gender equality and lasting change.

ActionAid has a strong track record of emergency response, and we know that our approach works. Since 1974 we have responded to emergencies – from natural disasters and disease outbreaks to conflicts and refugee crises – in over 40 countries.

And we know that when women rise – when women lead – a better future becomes possible.

How women leaders make the difference

Joyce is the leader of a women's forum in Vanuatu, which evolved from ActionAid’s humanitarian response to Cyclone Pam in 2015.

When the cyclone hit, it left widespread devastation in her community, but women in some villages were excluded from the emergency response.

"Sometimes they reject all the women thinking all the women are not enough to do the work," she said.

Joyce joined the Women I Tok Tok Tugeta women's forum which, supported by ActionAid, enabled women to identify their own needs, lead action plans to addresses those issues, and build solidarity and power with one another.

"If women group together and talk… then all the leaders of the community, specifically all the men, can trust the ladies," she said. "Then they can agree we can have rights to work together with all the men."

Since Joyce became President, she has led the forum in their disaster prepardness work, and in responding to the impact of climate change.

She hopes "that women leaders will emerge from this group to be a role model to the future generation."

What do Funding Futures Network members do?

FFN members empower women and girls by allowing us to direct their funds to the areas that women and girls tell us are the highest priority. This localised approach ensures women and girls around the world are leading the change in their communities, resulting in long-term sustainable impact. After all, women and girls know their communities best and have a vision for a better future.

Our approach also means that when disasters strike, ActionAid is ready. The Funding Futures Network enables ActionAid to work hand-in-hand with communities to help them rebuild and recover with women and girls at the heart of those plans via our Emergency Action Fund.

How do I join the network?

You can choose to give by Direct Debit by setting up a regular gift below, or making a one-off payment for the year.

What happens when I become a member?

As a member, you will make a minimum monthly donation of £25 to our flexible funding pot which is allocated efficiently and effectively according to the areas of greatest need, plus a £1,000 annual gift to the Emergency Action Fund (EAF).

This can be a personal donation or funds you have raised through fundraising activities.

As a member, you will:

Be the first to receive regular digital updates on our work by joining the network’s online forum. You will be able to share articles on the topics that interest you most on your social media.

How ActionAid's Funding Futures Network is changing the world with women and girls

Take a look at a project you could support and meet one of our young activists who you could connect with.

Helping young refugees in Lebanon

Lebanon is facing one of the largest refugee influxes in the world. Over a million Syrian refugees live alongside a population of only 4.5 million Lebanese residents - over 20% of Lebanon’s population. Roughly a third of Syrian refugees are between 12 and 18 years old. Without access to education, social activities or basic services, many of these young people struggle to imagine a future for themselves.

This project will work with 1,500 young Syrian refugees and Lebanese people aged between 14 and 29, empowering them to lead community change and enhance their skills by:

running four 10-day business skills courses and connecting young entrepreneurs with coaches and mentors
providing seed funding to at least five new enterprises run collaboratively by young people from refugee and host communities
training at least 12 organisations on advocacy and campaigning and supporting them to campaign for improved access to education for marginalised groups

Connect with one of our global young activists like Salamatu

Despite being one of the most brilliant students at school, Salamatu Shiraz struggled to get an education in her hometown of Tamale in northern Ghana. To pay for extra classes, exam fees and even school furniture, she sold bread in her local market.

Now 22, Salamatu has been elected Ghana’s National Coordinator of Activista - our global youth network involving more than 250 ActionAid partners and thousands of volunteers in more than 25 countries.

Salamatu supports over 400 young people to advocate for improvements in education quality and access in Ghana and they have already had success - with the government agreeing to put in new desks in four schools.

Changing lives with Unilever and FCDO

In April 2020, in immediate response to the emerging Covid-19 pandemic, ActionAid joined the Hygiene and Behaviour Change Coalition (HBCC) led by Unilever and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. The coalition involved 21 NGO partners seeking to tackle this global health crisis.

Across both Kenya and Nepal, ActionAid worked alongside women-led organisations to raise awareness of the Covid-19 virus and how to prevent infection; distribute vital resources like soap and PPE; provide access to water, and tackle gender-based violence and food insecurity.

By July 2021, ActionAid had reached more than 28 million people — mainly women and girls to provide both short-term respite and sustainable solutions as further waves affected each country.

Working with our friends in the corporate, public, and third sectors was essential for mounting a rapid and thorough response. ActionAid will take significant learnings from this into future humanitarian and development partnerships.

Emergency funding

Trusts and Foundations give generously to our emergency appeals every year, allowing us to work directly with women and girls to provide vital support and save lives. Typically, more women than men are killed by rapid onset disasters like tsunamis and earthquakes and violence against women and girls increases during all emergencies. We empower women to lead the responses and ensure their rights are protected.

Trust based investment

Flexible funds are the most strategic and innovative way to support ActionAid. Trusting us to allocate funds to priority areas shifts power, reduces costs and channels funds to urgent and harder to fund priorities, such as pilot projects.

By choosing to make an unrestricted donation you will be joining our small network of flexible funding trusts and the Players of the People’s Postcode Lottery to form an important pillar of our most strategic funding.

Flexible funding helps ensure funds are used to support the priorities of partners, women’s rights organisations and their communities while reducing the pressure on these agile but over stretched actors.

How we work with Trusts and Foundations

We build long-term relationships with trusts and foundations who support our work to achieve lasting change. We will work with you to identify how our work aligns with objectives of your Trust or Foundation and work together to make the biggest difference.
