The Paris Climate Change Conference: why we need a Global Adaptation Goal
Climate change is happening now, and affecting some of the poorest people in the world – including through droughts, floods and rising sea levels. The Prime Minister’s announcement in September that the UK will provide £5.8 billion in climate finance over 5 years is clearly a step in the right direction, and a positive contribution ahead of COP 21. ActionAid strongly welcomes that this funding will be split evenly between mitigation and adaptation.
However, still not enough is being done – both in the UK and globally — to ensure developing countries have the money they need to build resilience to climate change. ActionAid wants the UK Government to publicly support the creation of a ‘Global Goal on Adaptation’ to ensure funding keeps up with the need.
