Finding strength after domestic violence
Julia, 50, is a hairdresser and single mother in Nakuru County, Kenya. A survivor of domestic violence, she left an abusive marriage of 22 years to protect herself and her teenage son.
I feared for my life and my son’s future."
After fleeing, Julia faced emotional trauma and lost her livelihood. With support from ActionAid, including counselling and access to skills training, she rebuilt her confidence and restarted her work as a hairdresser.
Today, Julia is an active member of the SGBV Survivors Network, offering guidance, solidarity and hope to other women, while speaking out to challenge violence in her community.
By running for the 137 Challenge, you can help women like Julia regain independence, rebuild their lives and create safer communities.
Julia, a survivor of domestic violence in Nakuru County, Kenya, rebuilt her life as a hairdresser and now supports other women through the SGBV Survivors Network.
