Our response to the UK’s announcement to treble climate finance to £1.5bn by 2025.

Commenting on the UK’s announcement to treble climate finance to £1.5bn by 2025, Sophie Rigg, Senior Climate and Resilience Adviser at ActionAid UK, said:

“The Foreign Secretary has announced what the UK government claims is an ambitious adaptation agenda, but in reality, funding announced today does little to address the scale of the adaptation needs. Nor does it address the losses and damages communities and women and girls are facing today.

“The announcement today is yesterday's news, pledging already allocated funding that should have previously been focused on supporting the communities and helping women and girls on the frontlines of climate change to adapt.

“New and additional funding for adaptation and loss and damage is needed for those most affected by the climate crisis. In a year of climate catastrophes for every corner of the globe - from floods in Pakistan and Nigeria to the worst droughts on record across the Horn of Africa – the UK needs to support financing for the loss and damage that communities and women and girls on the frontline of the crisis are facing.”
