A catastrophic flood struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district on 26 August after an intense surge of water entered the Bhotekoshi river and rapidly travelled downstream through the Trishuli river corridor.
More than 1,380 people have died and at least 5,130 are reported missing. Approximately 1.6 million people have been impacted and at least 40,000 people have been displaced.
Entire communities have experienced extensive destruction, with homes, roads and infrastructure washed away or severely damaged. As with any emergency, women and girls are disproportionately affected, as well as being the first to respond. ActionAid teams have been conducting rapid needs assessments, and our response will put women and girls at the centre, recognising the increased needs for protection, loss of livelihoods and increased care responsibilities.

What are the most urgent needs for Nepal?
Emergency shelter, food, safe water, along with medical and protection services, especially for women and children are all urgently needed in the areas worst affected by the floods.
There is also a need for search and rescue operations, along with family tracing following the devastation in the area.

What is ActionAid doing in Nepal?
ActionAid's partner is already on the ground and working with local authorities to initiate its response operation to the devastation caused by the floods.
ActionAid Nepal is coordinating closely with government authorities, humanitarian organisations, local partners and community networks to support a timely and locally led response.
