Cyclone Idai made landfall on Thursday 14th March and has caused widespread destruction across Southern Africa, including Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

Fears are growing for the thousands of people who have lost lives, homes and livelihoods.

The total death toll from the cyclone is still unclear, but is expected to rise to at least 1,000 in Mozambique over the next few days, as the full extent of the disaster becomes known. Hundreds more are injured or missing.

The devastation has meant some areas are completely cut off due to flooding. Some regions are entirely without power, and almost every communications network has been damaged.

ActionAid and our local partners are on the ground in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

We are urgently preparing our response, including relief items such as food, blankets, hygiene kits, water sterilising tablets, water containers, clothes and tents.

The Emergencies Action Fund is there to make sure we are always ready to respond in emergencies — it is reserved solely for this work.

Please donate now to help save lives.
