Join our Run for Rights challenge and get pupils to run as many laps as they can in 16 minutes for the 16 million young girls missing out on school. 

In some countries, girls are far more likely to miss out on life-changing education than boys. This is because discrimination, disasters, poverty and a lack of safety make it impossible. But getting an education supports girls to shape their own futures and live healthier lives. 

It’s time to step up, lace up, and ask family and friends to make a donation so ActionAid can make sure more girls get the education that is their right.

Girls' rights to an education in Nigeria

“The more girls we gather together, the more power we have,” says Simon Abigail, 16-year-old secretary of Manchok Girls’ Club, set up by ActionAid.

I encourage girls to stay in school for longer. I want to tell politicians in Nigeria how important it is to educate girls, and explain why girls need more help because often their parents will pay the boys' school fees and not the girls'."

“There is one girl at school who gave birth to a baby girl and dropped out,” Simon recalls.

“I went to speak to her family and now she’s returned to school and joined the Girls’ Club. When I think of her I am hopeful – but we need to keep campaigning.”
